Tips and Tricks for a Gorgeous Figure…On the Go!

At TEI Spa we want to look great but also have fun, go out and eat some of our favorite foods. Thats why we put together this AMAZING list of Dining out Dos and Don’ts!

Afraid dinner out will ruin your diet before you even start your entrée? These 10 dos and don’ts will help.

Some people trying to lose weight steer clear of restaurants to avoid the large portion sizes, bottomless bread baskets and all those high-calorie entries. But shunning restaurants altogether isn’t a realistic approach to weight loss — and it’s unnecessary.

You can eat out and lose weight. Start with this list of tips to help you navigate the menu options at your favorite fast-food joints and sit-down restaurants.

1. Set a budget
Determine how much you’re willing to eat before looking at the menu. You can give yourself some leeway by scheduling some exercise on or near days you plan to eat out. Putting in gym time or going for a brisk walk will help offset a little extra eating. And remember, be flexible. You can loosen up a bit on special occasions, as long as you eat carefully most of the time. (Just don’t let every day become a special occasion.)

2. Put on your game face
Decide on some guidelines before you go to a restaurant, and stick to them. For instance:

  • Skip the all-inclusive (prix fixe) menu and opt for à la carte selections. Doing so might not be as economical, but you’ll probably eat less.
  • Take one piece of bread, then ask your server to remove the breadbasket from the table.

3. Make special requests
You’re paying good money for that meal, so you’re entitled to make special requests or slight modifications. Why not say:

  • Can I have that without butter? Grilled? With the sauce on the side?
  • I’d like mixed greens instead of fries with my sandwich.

4. Practice portion control
Some restaurant portions can be two, three, even four times the “normal” size — especially super-sized fast food meals. Keep your portions in check by:

  • Ordering a salad as a starter and then splitting a main entrée with a friend.
  • Creating your own scaled-down meal from a couple of appetizers and/or side dishes.

5. Break down (language) barriers
If you don’t know what a preparation term means, ask. In general, though, the following words translate into high-fat, high-calorie dishes:

  • Au gratin, scalloped, hollandaise.
  • Parmigiana, scampi, Bolognese.

6. Downsize the super-size
Super-sized fast food meal options can be loaded with calories. Either:

    • Order something small, like a basic burger. After all, the first bite tastes the same as the last.
  • Order yourself a children’s meal.7. Watch out for extras
The average burger with ketchup, lettuce and tomato isn’t so bad. But one with “the works” is usually a caloric nightmare. Skip:
  • Bacon, cheese and mayonnaise.Double-burger patties and extra pieces of bread.

8. Don’t go top heavy
Salad bars and garden salads grace menus across the country. But those extra toppings can sabotage your seemingly diet-conscious choices:

  • Go light on croutons, grated cheese and bacon.Opt for small amounts of low-fat or nonfat dressings on the side.

9. Don’t drink away your progress
A drink with dinner is fine, but too many margaritas may wreak havoc on your dieting resolve. Keep your appetite under control by:

  • Alternating alcoholic beverages with noncaloric sodas or sparkling water. Not drinking alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach.

10. Resign from the “clean plate club”
You paid for it so you have to eat it, right? Wrong. Just think of the health and emotional costs of those extra calories on your body. Downsize by:

  • Eating half the meal and doggie-bagging the rest.
  • Pushing your plate away when you’re full.
  • And remember to eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your body to recognize that it’s full.

And enjoy your time with Friends and Family! Now Bon Appetit!

See what Holistically Haute Editor in Chief, Rachael Pontillo, Thinks of the Essence Aire Diffuser

When the Editor of Holistically Haute, Rachael Pontillo, wanted to do a review of our best selling aromatherapy diffuser, the Essence Aire Diffuser, we were thrilled! What would be better than having a professional aesthetician tell us her true thoughts on our product and if she felt like it was really worth the time and money.

Well, after a couple weeks of taking it home and using it, the results were as expected… SHE LOVED IT! and had a few pretty incredible things to say about it too!

Product Spotlight: EssenceAire Diffuser from TEI Spa

One of the reasons many women, and an increasing number of men love a day at the spa is because of the much needed feeling of relaxation it provides. This relaxing atmosphere can be achieved in many ways, through soft music, dimmed lighting, aromatherapy, and hydrotherapy.

What are aromatherapy and hydrotherapy?

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that utilizes the natural essential oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots, and other parts of certain plants to enhance psychological and physical well-being. Each essential oil has specific purposes and is used to treat various conditions. These oils can be used in many ways:

• They can be mixed with a carrier, base, or existing product to for therapeutic purposes depending on the properties of the essential oil
• They can be inhaled on their own for temporary relief of symptoms, stress, or bad moods
• They can enhance hydrotherapy treatments by adding aromatic as well as topical therapeutic benefits
Hydrotherapy uses water in its various states (ice, steam, liquid) at different temperatures to treat various physiological as well as mental conditions. Some examples are:
• Soaking in a hot bath infused with essential oils, muds, or salts to relieve sore muscles
• Using a humidifier in dry rooms or taking a steam shower to relieve respiratory symptoms
• Using hot or cold compresses to relieve pain and inflammation

Combining aromatherapy and hydrotherapy

It is very common in alternative medicine, as well as in spa treatments to combine aromatherapy and hydrotherapy. Often, essential oils are added to therapeutic soaks, mineral body wraps, and steam treatments during facials. Each therapy enhances the effects of the other.

Two of the most commonly used essential oils are lavender and eucalyptus.

Lavender is has positive effects on the mind as well as the physical body. Its scent is relaxing, soothing, mildly sedative, and considered to be pleasant to most people. For these reasons, it has been used to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Lavender also has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It is generally well tolerated and non-allergenic, with no side effects. For this reason, it can be used (when mixed with a carrier oil or base) to soothe minor wounds, rashes, and other and skin irritations. In the spa or holistic wellness center, it is not only used aromatherapeutically to promote relaxation, but can also be misted or applied onto the skin to treat skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema/dermatitis, and psoriasis.

Eucalyptus, on the other hand, is antispasmodic, stimulating, and is an effective antiseptic and expectorant. It has many medical and therapeutic uses, and is  used often in aromatherapy and hydrotherapy (steam) spa and wellness treatments to energize and stimulate the mood, as well as to treat respiratory conditions.

Bringing the spa home

I received a gift of an EssenceAire Diffuser from TEI Spa Essentials.

This unique and elegant electrical diffuser offers a misting technology through the vibration of the water and ultrasonic waves that oxygenate and purify the air in whatever room you use it. You can use it for that reason alone, but you also have the option to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a customized aromatherapy/hydrotherapy treatment.
I was sitting at my computer feeling stressed about an upcoming deadline. It got to the point that my mind began to wander and I could not focus on the task at hand. Instead, I began to think about what to cook for dinner, what to write for my next blog post, getting the car inspected, etc. just to avoid the stress of completing my deadline. I decided to try some lavender essential oil in my diffuser. I added just a few drops, and set the timer to 30 minutes, and it immediately started working. And I have to admit…I began to relax and feel better and was able to concentrate on my deadline.

What makes the EssenceAire Diffuser different from others?

My favorite feature, and what is most unique about the EssenceAire Diffuser is that I was able to control the strength of the fragrance. There is nothing more annoying than turning on a typical diffuser or lighting a heavily-scented candle or traditional oil burner and being overcome with the fragrance to the point that you have to leave the room. Plus, I was able to control the length of time the fragrance stayed in the air. You can set the diffuser to run straight for 30 minutes, then shut off automatically; or you can set it to come on for 15 seconds, then go off for 30 seconds. Once it stops running, the fragrance quickly dissipates, unlike those stinky candles and artificial air fresheners.

I have to admit, I have tried a “poor man’s” version of this…adding drops of essential oil to a regular humidifier. And of course, I ended up clogging and breaking the humidifier. Well this particular diffuser uses disposable cups to hold and separate the oils from the interior of the diffuser to avoid clogging the machine. You choose how much or how little aroma you want by adding more or fewer drops of the essential oil. Plus, unlike typical humidifiers, it has the ultrasonic action which provides cleaner, more oxygenated air.

Bringing the spa anywhere…

I am lucky enough to work from home, but I think the EssenceAire Diffuser is something people should use in their offices as well. Many office buildings have high levels of indoor air pollution which can lead to health problems. The air purifying feature of the EssenceAire could help improve the quality air you breathe at work. Adding certain essential oils to the cup could also help you stay focused, reduce stress, and keep your mood positive.

The EssenceAire Diffuser comes in two sizes, a large and a small. The small one is small enough to fit onto any crowded desk or bookshelf, and is powerful enough to get the job done. The fact that the fragrance fades quickly once you shut it off is great for the office as well, in case someone drops in who doesn’t like the scent.

Whether you need to de-stress after a meeting at the office, or just want help getting to sleep at home, the EssenceAire Diffuser allows you to experience the many positive health benefits of aromatherapy and hydrotherapy on your terms.

6 Natural Energy Boosters

It’s three o’clock in the afternoon and your body is telling you it’s nap time. Time to reach for the coffee or chocolate, right? Bzzt! Caffeine and candy will just exacerbate the problem. Instead, try these natural energy boosters:

Dance, skip, walk!: Just ten minutes of activity–especially outdoors–can do the trick.

Stre-e-e-e-tch: Gentle stretching revitalizes the whole body.

Inhale/exhale: Stress can wear you out and keep you from getting the rest you need to recharge. To unwind, practice deep breathing: Sit in a chair; slowly count to four while inhaling through your nose; hold it for a second; and slowly count to four while you exhale through your mouth. Repeat five to ten times.

Drink green: A chlorophyll-rich drink in the afternoon–preferably a combination of alfalfa, chlorella, spirulina, and barley grass–acts like an instant transfusion to boost tired blood.

Your friend, Herb: Herbal adrenal-support supplements can prevent crashes and keep you peppy. Look for sarsaparilla (Smilax), licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), astragalus (Astragalus), and ginseng (Panax ginseng).

Skip crash foods: Eat smart to avoid food comas. Your lunch should include protein, non-starchy vegetables, and fat for long-lasting, even-keeled energy. Good examples of balanced combinations include a large Greek salad with olives, assorted vegetables, and cooked chicken breast; or a shrimp and Chinese vegetable stir-fry. Apply the same principles to mid-afternoon snacks.

About Small World Beauty

Smallworld Beauty was founded to inspire and motivate individuals to live a healthier life. They strive to create the best products to help make anyones weight loss journey sweet and simple.

History

After years of being overweight, lacking self-confidence and a passion for life, founder and CEO, Ghada Abuhakmeh, was determined to make a change. She dedicated herself to seeking out the most effective ways to optimize her metabolism, health and mental well-being.

Ghada joined online weight loss communities for support, joined a gym to boost her weight loss, and gave her kitchen a total makeover, eliminating all junk food. Within months, her body began to transform. Acknowledging that it took years to pack on the weight, she remained patient and persistent. The side effects of this new “diet” were too good not to implement for life. Looking slimmer was great, but feeling amazing was priceless.

In 2009, Smallworld Beauty collaborated with experienced chemists to formulate effective supplements to kick start weight loss and boost overall health. Understanding how torturous a diet can be, Ghada wanted to create products that would make achieving weight loss sweet and simple.

Products

Smallworld Beauty products are designed to reduce the torture of dieting and make your weight loss journey sweet and simple!

All products have been formulated using effective ingredients to help you optimize your efforts while adopting proper nutrition and exercise.
